Presented for consideration is a Royal Doulton Dorothy Cake Plate decorated with the Ploughing series. The Ploughing series was introduced in 1915, added to in 1929 and it had been withdrawn from production by 1948. Attached to my Nicholnack art in pottery website I have collection of Fact-files regarding Royal Doulton Series Ware, along with Fact-files dedicated to Doulton Shapes I have a created a Ploughing Fact-file. In this fact file I identify 8 scenes unique to this series. In this fact file I identify 8 scenes unique to this series.

This is scene 3: “Ploughman adjusting his plough.” Written on the base by hand in blue ink is the pattern number “D5650”. It has the black stamped maker’s mark of the style that was in use from 1932 until 1942. This plate is date coded for 1937.

  • Dimensions

It measures 23 cm (9”) diagonally across at its broadest.

  • Condition 

It is in EXCELLENT condition; with NO chips, cracks, stains or repairs and NO crazing. This is in as close to AS NEW condition as you could really hope to find. It has obviously lived the lions share of the last 72 years in the protected confines of a display cabinet.
