Presented here for consideration is a Royal Doulton Sir Roger de Coverley Series Ancestor Ashtray. It bears the scene; “Sir Roger traveling to London”. This popular series is based on a character created by Thomas Steele for The Spectator, a prominent literary magazine which was first published in 1712. Sir Roger was depicted as the perfect country gentle man. The Sir Roger de Coverley series was introduced in 1911, changes where made to the range in 1930 and 1937 and it had been withdrawn by 1949.

In this fact file I show the 19 scenes associated with this series. It bears the black stamped special Sir Roger De Coverley back-stamp. The pattern number D3418 is written on the base by hand in black ink.

  • Dimensions

It measures in at 12.5 cm (5”) by 12 cm (4.75”).

  • Condition

It is in EXCELLENT condition; with NO chips, cracks, stains or repairs. As is most often the case with production of this style and vintage, it does exhibit some light crazing. This piece has only ever known the sheltered existence of a cabinet dweller.

This is a very popular Royal Doulton’s series ware motif. This is the first time I have ever seen an Ancestor ashtray in this pattern. You are not going to find another one of these in a hurry. BUY IT NOW and make sure that this delight is not pilfered right out from under your nose.
