An important & rare Russian Orthodox Church Vestment Fabric Second half of the 19th Century Large Size: 42” x 68” (Two segments sewn together) Made for Church vestments or as an alter cover Extremely fine an rich hand brocade with silver-metallic and silk threads Repeating floral motifs and Orthodox crosses are executed on a red field. This unique piece was hand brocaded on a narrow loom in two long pieces and joined together to form the larger piece pictured here. It is likely the seamstress’ shops of the Church, manufacturing church textiles and liturgical vestments made this item. The fabric is emblazoned with two medallions (or city seals) and inscriptions woven in on one end. The rough translation I have is: “Factory of CM Zaglodina inlaid with 2% silver (thread),” from the seals, likely made in Moscow. If you are able to identify seals or inscription, then please email to me and I will post it. In good condition for its age with oxidization spots in the silver thread and some stained areas (see images). GREAT GIFT A must for collectors of antique textiles and embroideries. For any information about this or any other item, feel free to email me with your query. Please see detailed images posted. NO RESERVE FREE SHIPPING in theUSA
