UNLISTED DEER FOOT FARM MA OVOID CREAM CANNING FRUIT JAR

Up for sale is an old Deer Foot Farm cream jar from Southboro, Massachusetts. This pint has an ovoid shape and is embossed: DEER FOOT FARM REGISTERED THIS JAR NOT SOLD PLEASE RETURN. The back of the jar has no embossed Mass SEAL. Red Book #9 and #10 both list this jar with a F1 mass seal. The jar may have been a test jar; their is an etched B on the back side.

The jar is a light sun colored purple amethyst. The jar will turn darker purple if left in a sunny window over time. This color means the jar was made before 1914.

The state of Massachusetts required a Mass seal be issued to a dairy bottle producer to insure correct measurements. The jar for sale was made by Cohansey glass Co. of Downington Pa. Cohansey never received a seal and was selling jars without the states approval. Cohansey used a Mass C seal and A1 seal but it was not state sanctioned. I have another Deer Foot jar with a FL seal. Some of this information may lead to why this jar does not have any Mass Seal.

This jar is clean and looks excellent, there is just a small patch of light stain. This is a rare jar find.
