As for connectivity, the D-R410 comes with an HDMI output, which is capable of upconverting DVDs and incoming signals to 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. There are also component video inputs, which are able to upscale incoming signals and homemade DVDs to 1080i, but are limited to 480p for commercial DVDs. For older TVs, there is also a standard A/V output with S-Video. For inputs, there are two A/V inputs with S-Video and composite video (one front and one back) used to connect to standard home theater components, as well as a FireWire input for connecting a camcorder. Rounding out the connectively is an coaxial digital-audio output, which can be used to playback surround sound on commercial DVDs.

The unit includes five recording modes: highest-quality XP fits 1 hour of video; SP fits 2 hours; LP fits 4 hours; EP fits 6 hours; and SLP fits about 8 hours. The D-R410 also supports dual-layer DVD-R and DVD+R discs, doubling the video capacity to 2 hours for XP mode and 16 hours for EP. Options are great, and the D-R410 has a lot of them in every category.

Recording directly from TV becomes a snap because of the included "commercial skip" function.  With "commercial skip" you can omit any commercials automatically from your DVD recording allowing for a smoother, uninterrupted playback experience.

The D-R410 supports playback of MP3 and WMA music, as well as displaying JPEG images if the material is recorded to a CD-RW/-R disc. Both file formats worked flawlessly on the unit at several bit rates and resolutions in our tests.

The Toshiba D-R410 doesn't skimp on audio features either.  The HDMI out jack will allow crisp high quality audio to go to any speaker in your setup without loss of quality, and the 3D virtual surround sound output lets you hear full sound quality without actual surround speakers.
