Seinfeld on DVD. The pilot for
Seinfeld was shown on July 5, 1989, and the series premiered on May 31, 1990. The 180th and final episode of
Seinfeld aired on Thursday night, May 14, 1998, at 8 P.M. on NBC. Winner of ten Emmy Awards,
Seinfeld was honored by the United States government in 2000 with the issuance of a 33¢ postage stamp captioned "Seinfeld/Sitcom Sensation". In 1988,
SEINFELD, born Jerome A. Seinfeld in Brooklyn, New York in 1954,
had
won the American Comedy Award for Best Comedy Club Stand-Up Comic-Male. Jerry Seinfeld's career as a nightclub stand-up comedian led to him starring as himself on what arguably became the best sitcom of the 1990's. The pilot was shown on July 5, 1989, and the series premiered on May 31, 1990, just two months after the 1990 American Comedy Awards.
In 1992 and 1993, Seinfeld was awarded the American Comedy Award for Funniest Male Performer in a TV Series (Leading Role) Network, Cable or Syndication.
Comedienne and actress
LOUIS-DREYFUS, born in New York City in 1961, is
best known for her role as Elaine Marie Benes in the hit TV sitcom Seinfeld (1990-1998), for which she won or was nominated for numerous awards, including the
Emmy Award (won, 1996; nominated in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998), the
Golden Globe (won, 1994; nominated, 1995), the
Screen Actors Guild Award (won in 1997, 1998; nominated in 1995, 1996, 1999) and the
American Comedy Awards honors (won in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998; nominated in 1996, 1999). She went on to
star in two of her own series,
Watching Ellie (2002-2003) and
The New Adventures of Old Christine (debut in 2006), hoping to break the "
Seinfeld curse" that has plagued other cast members who headed short-lived sitcoms. Her televison credits also include
several made-for-TV movies, including
Geppetto (2000), and Louis-Dreyfus has had
regular or recurring roles on
Saturday Night Live (1982-1985),
Day by Day (1988-1989) and
Arrested Development (2004, 2005), and she has made guest appearances on several other TV series. Her
feature film credits include
Hannah and Her Sisters (1986),
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989),
Deconstructing Harry (1997) and
A Bug's Life (1998, voice).
ALEXANDER, born Jason Scott Greenspan in Newark, New Jersey in 1959, seemed destined to become a star from childhood despite his stoutness and baldness. He had a forceful stage presence as early as high school and made his Broadway debut at 20 in the starring role as Joe in Stephen Sondheim's short-lived musical
Merrily We Roll Along (1981). He made his movie debut in
The Burning that year, the first of over 80 movies and TV shows on his resume as of this biography. 1989 was a big year for Alexander. He won
a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for Jerome Robbins' Broadway. More significant for his career, though, was his first performance as
George Costanza in the runaway hit sitcom Seinfeld (1989-1998). Alexander earned
seven Emmy nods for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Seinfeld. Alexander got his own lead role as
the voice of the foul-mouthed, oversexed and sociopathic private eye Eric Duckman in the TV cartoon Duckman: Private Dick/Family Man (1994-1997). Alexander hasn't had as much of chance to show off his dramatic chops, but got one in the role of a drag queen with AIDS in 1997's
Love! Valour! Compassion! RICHARDS, born in Culver City, California in 1949, will probably forever be connected with
wireheaded space cadet Cosmo Kramer on Seinfeld (1989-1998). But Richards has a long acting career. He was bit by the acting bug in eighth grade, but quickly found that his gifts lay in comedy, not acting. He developed a surreal style of comedy in Los Angeles' comedy clubs before making his TV debut on the comedy sketch show
Fridays (1980-1982). Richards paid the bills after
Fridays with a string of guest star roles on TV and forgettable movies until landing the role of Kramer on
Seinfeld, which earned him
three Emmies for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Richards briefly made headlines more recently for firing off a racist tirade at two black hecklers during one of his stand-up performances in Los Angeles, California; his outburst was caught on tape and has made the rounds on the Internet. Comes rolled. Lightly creased. Light tears and dents along top, right and left edges. Otherwise in fine condition.
