The world s best-selling author, Stephen King, accidentally coined the term flatsigned. King needed to differentiate whether he should sign only his name (flatsigned) or inscribe the book to an individual.
In talking with his office, I found out that Mr. King incorrectly believed that this term was being used in the book-collecting world. At that time, it was not a term used in the industry. Frustratingly, there was no true distinctive term given to books inscribed to a previous owner or those signed on bookplates then stuck into a book versus those just signed by the author, or flatsigned.
