SHALIMAR THE CLOWN
by Salman Rushdie
INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY AUTHOR on the full-title page
Random House, New York, 2005
First printing, First edition (so stated)
398 pp. ~ Dimensions: 6 & 1/4" x 9 & 7/16"
A signed copy of the true first hardcover edition with all points present. Precedes all other subsequent editions.
  • "First Edition" stated on publication page with line count: 2 4 6 8 9 7 5 3 1
SALMAN RUSHDIE: "A glittering novelist - one with startling imaginative and intellectual resources, a master of perpetual storytelling" - V.S. Pritchett, The New Yorker
  • Shalimar the Clown delves deep into the roots of terrorism and explores the turmoil generated by different faiths and cultures attempting to coexist... Rushdie has brilliantly unraveled the construction of terrorists: some of them fight for ideas; others fight to fulfill vows or, if they are men, to reclaim their wives. Shalimar is at once a political thriller, folk tale, slapstick comedy, wartime adventure, and work of science fiction, pop culture, and magical realism.... Yet, despite its diverse genres and styles, Shalimar is, at heart, a story of love, honor, and revenge - and the global consequences of such emotions and actions. - Bookmarks Magazine
CONDITION: NEAR FINE+ / FINE
A fresh, crisp, tight and firm volume in an unclipped fine dust jacket. There is a very slight small surface scuff to the gloss of the front board, otherwise, the volume is in virtually mint condition. Aside from Salman Rushdie's signature and inscription on the full-title page, all within is pristine. No previous owner's name, no writing or marking whatsoever. Spotless bright, white pages with no creases or tears. All is immaculate.
