INTERESTING SILVER PLATED COVERED DISH CAN BE TRANSFORMED IN TWO SERVING PLATTERS WHEN YOU REMOVE THE KNOB ON THE LID This covered silverplated dish dates from about 1925 and I can see the Art Deco influence already with the angular designs and shape. It looks like an elongated hexagon and the knob on the lid has the same shape. The measurements are 11 1/2" long and 8 1/2 wide. The bottom and the top are both 1 1/2" deep. Even though the bowl shape is rounded the addition of ornated bands on the hexagonal edges and design on the top part of the lid give the dish a very elegant look. The bands are showing a curly leaves design. The marks seen on the back (as shown on the photos) read "EPNS" with three marks underneath: a bearded head, a crown and an ornated "S". On the other side of the dish the numbers 3051 are impressed underneath. I believe this covered dish comes from England. It is in good condition except for the bottom inside part which would need to be resilvered to cover some tint spots where the silverplate is foxed. However I still used it in this state and it shines with elegance. The lid does not have any spots damage. Again, the fact that I could use this covered dish as two serving platters was most useful! |
