I use a wide variety of samples to set up my machines.  I recommend anyone buying a machine to be assured it has been tested in at least 8 different type of materials.  This way chances are the machine will sew easily most of your projects.

 

This machine WILL NOT sew horse saddles, knife sheaths (hard and very dense vegetable tanned leather), hard tooling leather, dogs collars or other hard to pierce things: for this you need a post bed machine.  It WILL NOT sew anything exceeding 5/16'' inch thick.

 

 The space under the foot is 5/16" maximum !!!

 

 

This SINGER 15-88 is a POWERFUL LIFETIME MACHINE !!! 

This is an extremely WELL MADE machine in absolutely TOP MECHANICAL CONDITION.  It will last several generations without spending anything on it.   This machine is freshly oiled, adjusted and balanced to the perfection, threaded and ready to sew !!! 

 INCLUDED:

The included ORIGINAL COPY instruction manual will guide you to thread the machine, to make a bobbin, to use the proper needle on different fabrics and so on.  You will learn also how to insert properly the needle, how to use all the accessories, when and how to clean and oil the machine, etc.  It is very well illustrated.

This machine was made in 1948 in St-Johns, Quebec (Canada) by the World Known Singer Sewing Machine Company. Serial Number JB970397. 

 All the parts are available on the market as Singer in those years used standards on their parts manufacturing.  It is amazing how this powerful machine runs extremely smooth and is very quiet.  Being in outstanding condition, this exceptionally strong machine is in top mechanical condition, no wear on any parts.  There is no sewing lamp.  This very well cared machine will sew easily heavy materials and also light to medium fabrics.  It accepts the commercial nylon thread size 69 but I recommend you the Coats D-64 Nylon Upholstery Thread (available worldwide) which will resist to the sun exposure and is weatherproof.   A REBUILD 1.5 Amp motor (made in Japan) (110-120 Volts for Canada and U.S.A.) was installed to run this machine fast and it excels in speed and torque on thickness.  At high speed, this machine is capable of 1100 stitches per minute. A test was made also in 8 layers of heavy jeans (what people would not normally sew) and the stitch is solid, nice and long.  This machine has a pressure foot releaser for light to medium fabrics (silk, nylon, jersey, polyester, cotton). It does a nice and long straight stitch.   This machine measures 7" x 14-5/8" and will fit in any sewing table or in any standard carrying case.  You can sew directly on any table, I recommend you to put a rubber mat underneath. I am in the sewing industry since long enough to tell you this is an opportunity for you to buy such a powerful, hard to find and nice machine of this size.  It was completely restored to it's original manufacturing specifications, freshly oiled and adjusted to the perfection.  There is a stitch lenght lever from 6 to 30 stitches by inch and it does the reverse stitch (lever up).  Also an automatic bobbin winder is fully operational and the feed/needle plate assembly is in perfect order.    You can control the speed of the machine from very slow for precision sewing and gradually up to the highest speed when needed.   Sewing about anything with this workhorse machine was a real pleasure!

The MECHANISM of this machine is in PERFECT condition !!! 

 

 

You will never need an expensive visit to the sewing shop with this machine!   Both ends of the bobbin shuttle drive shaft are "locked" with heavy drive pins.  Those were installed at the factory after the "perfect timing" was obtained.  Those "set for life" adjustments makes this machine a true workhorse who will NEVER be out of timing !!!

The feed drop screw located underneath will lower the feed dogs for darning and manual embroidery.

The electrical system includes a Japan made, powerful 1.5 Amps Rebuild Motor, a rebuild Foot Pedal and it's heavy duty wiring. 

This powerful machine was delivered to me without light and motor.  Many chances are it was on a threadle stand, as the Singer 15-88 was manufactured with the big "shoemaker" hand wheel especially to be fitted in threadle stands and sold where no electricity was available. 

   

A brand new motor belt will run this nice machine for years to come.

 

THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS THE SAME FOR CANADA AND U.S.A. 

This powerful machine has a chrome vanadium semi rotary hook.  This high quality hook was made by Singer from pure grade high quality metal.  This performs great on thickness, especially on leather. The feed mechanism is driven by a metal cam: no slipping, all stitches of the same length. Also, the feed can be lowered by the thumb screw underneath.  Thanks to the quality and reliability of those years making trouble free and lifelong systems!

SET IT UP AND WAS SEWING PILLOWS IN 15 MINUTES!
NOT AS FAST AS AN INDUSTRIAL MACHINE BUT I LIKE HOW IT
GOES THRU THE THICK FABRICS.  HAD NO PROBLEM THREADING
OR DOING THE BOBBIN.  MY GRANDMOTHER HAD A MACHINE
