We are pleased to offer you what has now become an American icon - a Singer 221 Featherweight Sewing Machine in all original condition - with the highly-sought-after scrolled face plate. AE413*** Serial Number gives this Featherweight a commission 'birthdate' of March 15, 1937... nearly 73-years-old.
Professionally serviced, this machine is ready to sew! ... a perfect forward and reverse stitch. I cannot begin to tell you how many e-mails I have received from those who have put away the 'expensive new' only to continue to use the sweet little ol' Featherweight.

The 221 Featherweight is renowned for its lightweight portability. Quilting classes, sewing get-togethers, and Featherweight Fanatics Clubs will be fun to attend with this classic collectible.
According to scale at the bottom of my   page (click here), the machine is given a grade 7. There is the normal evidence of wear and the typical sewing markings on the surface with more wear along the edges. The finish is good but aged. The overall integrity of the machine has been very-well maintained. It is very pretty and admirable to look at especially knowing its age. The motor runs strong and sews a smooth and lovely, even, forward and reverse stitch. You will be proud of this machine - lovely for display, yet you can be confident to sew with it.

Completely serviced, inside and out - this machine is ready to sew! ... a perfect forward and reverse stitch.
My husband (Mr. Fixit Featherweight) spends hours working on each machine to clean and maintain each Singer Featherweight that we sell - and to exemplify his reputation for presentation perfection.
Electrically, for example, you may have seen (elsewhere) replacement electric cords with rubber 3-hole plug-ins for the 3-prong mechanism on the machine. Carmon (my husband's name) actually refuses to stock these for resell because the bulky plastic-y feeling rubber is not only an ugly nuisance to try and squeeze it into a machine, but it is NOT original. The original machines had Bakelite plug-ins that were a perfect fit for plugging the cord into the machine. This originality is maintained as Carmon updates each machine for electrical safety. The original foot controller and machine plug-in are kept original while only changing the cord to today's electrical standards. One of the benefits to this is that he extends the cord an extra foot for your sewing convenience - especially with all the variances in table height for each quilter and seamstress.
Something else - all bottom bed cushions are checked and replaced, if necessary, so that your machine sits level and has new non-slip grip to your table. Foot controller cushions are also replaced if necessary. Look at the difference it makes!

Dear Friends of the Needle,
....We are friends because we all know one thing in common, that is, the joy of the needle, that little one-eyed help-meet, that will act as a vent for all those artistic feelings that demand outlet and expression in the form of making and doing things.
What a big family we are, all wielders of the little sewing needle, the knitting needle, the crochet hook and the machine needle in its multiplicity of forms, from the very fine one that will sew the gossamer frock of the little girl’s fancy dress, to the heirloom quilt, to the sturdy member that sews our leather gloves and shoes. Truly, they are one-eyed helpmeets that have added to our comforts and helped us to make progress through this busy world.
But if the machine needles had not been harnessed to good reliable instruments, so that they could work in the quickest and neatest way, they could not have done so much good, and that is why we, as needle workers, are grateful to the age-old Sewing Machine Companies for giving us that vintage instrument and in turn, giving it a beautiful setting with which to work.
We also have to be thankful for the vintage service of instruction, so that even those with basic knowledge can be taught how to make the most of their machine and its wonderful attachments.
Now you have the privilege of purchasing vintage books and instruction on how to make, mend and design, with professional tips, all of which would cost a large sum if you took lessons in the ordinary way. Here you have the written word that remains, as well as illustrations and diagrams making every point clear. It is my privilege to impart some of that knowledge to you and it is a joy to know from your letters that it has helped women in some of the loneliest corners of the world. The word “Sewing” and all it conveys is beyond description in this limited space.
My special message to you is - be a Singer Sewer and your troubles are o'er. You can have pretty, smart frocks, dainty underwear, house-linen, and little Jack and Mary can be well and comfortably dressed without encroaching too much on the family exchequer.
