SNAPPY VIDEO SNAPSHOT 4.0 converts video to stills

Play, Inc. (www.play.com; now out of business) has released Snappy Video Snapshot 4.0, a new version of the company's popular video capture unit that includes some intriguing new features. A notable addition is the bundling of Play's own Performer software to the package. Performer allows users to create full-screen, 60 fps shows with pictures, special effects, stereo music, narration and sound effects. The company says it's the first software program to bring the aesthetic of real television to PC presentations, and says Performer has been used to create several nationally aired television commercials. We've tested it.. -- it does indeed rock! (Performer is also available as part of Play's Gizmos MegaPak.)

Snappy 4.0 also adds the Snap Pad, a film-strip window that archives each image a user snaps and allows users to reprocess (crop, re-size, adjust the color, etc.) the image later; and an Internet-preview option that allows people to use a slider bar that, when dragged back and forth, displays how an image will look at different compression rates in real-time before they add it to a Web site or e-mail it. Snappy 4.0 is available at computer retailers for US$169.95.

Snappy generates higher quality video captures than any other product we've seen. Play's decision to bundle the excellent Performer online photo album software in version 4.0 made it our Editor's Choice in Image Capture utilities for the PC.
