DESCRIPTION:
"Create great-looking crafts from throw-away items. Here are 75 great gift ideas to make from "junk", along with home and holiday decorating projects to delight crafters who like quick and inexpensive crafts. Also, ideas for large home decorating projects, such as furniture and window treatments, make this book extra special for craft fans."
Introduction:
I believe we need to recycle everything we possibly can to keep things from adding to the already overfull landfills throughout the world. As you'll see by looking at the ideas in this book, there are many wonderful and creative designs we can make with items that would normally end up in the trash. This concept also applies to furniture that may be outdated: by painting or decorating a timeworn piece, you can give it new life and keep it from the trash heap.
We need to teach our young people to be creative. Using salvaged trash items in teaching crafts is an excellent way to challenge the imagination of a child. You'll be amazed at the ideas a few recycled items will bring forth from kids. My grandchildren Austin, 8, and Savannah, 5, often raid my boxes of recyclable items for craft projects and toys, and they spend more time playing with these than with their store-bought playthings. Just the other day Austin pulled a plastic hanger from the recycle bin because he saw its potential as a spaceship. If we can teach children to recycle for craftmaking supplies, we'll not only help the environment but also encourage kids to think creatively.
As I designed the projects for this book, I kept in mind that you won't always be able to find the exact items for your crafts. I've included a wide variety of techniques so that you can use your imagination to adapt these ideas to your furniture or recycled objects. I hope you'll enjoy transforming trash into treasures to decorate your home or to give as gifts.
Projects include: Resin Chair Update, Daffodil Bouquets, Playtime Table and Chairs, An Heirloom Look (Frames), Ribbons & Lace, Jar-O-Buttons Lamp, Decoupage Trays, Throw-Pillow Embellishments, Champagne-Cork Characters (Christmas), Botanical Garland, Stained Glass Globes (Christmas Ornaments), Decorative Candles, Star Tree Topper, Divine Door Decor (Angel), Welcome Witch (Halloween), Trick-or-Treat Sack, Turkey Table Decor (Thanksgiving), Bunny Basket (Easter), Glittery Candlesticks, Faux Filigree Necklace, Bejeweled Spoon Pendants, Celestial Lampshade, Thread Scrap Jewelry, Handmade Paper, Cuddly Caps (for Babies), Treasure Box, Cow Bank, Denim Place Setting, Clay Tile Trivet, Decorative Birdhouses, and much more.
