What does a Poker Card Guard Protector do?

While playing most card games, in particular Texas Hold'em, you should protect your hole cards by placing a card guard on them.  By doing this, the dealer and any other players cannot mistake your cards as dead and accidentally muck or fold them.

Card guards are also a fantastic way to individualise your style of play and are a great talking point at the table.
