SPAIN (Espana): ESCORIAL.

DATE PUBLISHED: 1901. IMAGE SIZE: Approx 4x5.75 inches (10x14.5 cms). Good condition. ORIGINAL COLOUR. A fascinating plan during the opening year of the last century. Some streets are individually named.

Karl Baedeker was born in Essen, Germany on 11/3/1801. He began publishing his now world famous travel guides in Coblenz (Koblenz) in 1827. He died 10/4/1859. The business was continued through the generations by his family. These Guides contained general maps of each country along with Town & City plans. The business of publishing travel guides flourishes still. Although the maps were printed on a fairly thin paper, with fairly narrow margins, they are none the less of great interest, being pre - World War I and look really attractive when well matted (mounted) and framed.
