This revised final draft script of the great, imaginative '80s series, 'ST. ELSEWHERE', is 70 pages long and has not only all the dialogue and action from the episode but a SET LIST and a CAST LIST as well. This script, dated May 1982, is of the pilot episode, entitled "SAINT ELSEWHERE" when it was written, that started it all. Read how the characters were described before the actors were cast and how the complex, involving world of St. Elsewhere was first envisioned on the page. This episode starred, of course, NORMAN LLOYD as avuncular Dr. Daniel Auschlander, ED BEGLEY JR. (SIX FEET UNDER) as hawaiian-shirted, sycophantic surgeon Victor Ehrlich, CHRISTINA PICKLES (Ross and Rachel's mom on FRIENDS.) as much-married, much-harried Nurse Helen Rosenthal, WILLIAM DANIELS (KNIGHT RIDER) as brilliant, brittle, napoleonic chief-of-surgery Dr. Mark Craig, HOWIE MANDEL as wacky Dr. Wayne Fiscus, JENNIFER SAVIDGE as tart-tongued nurse Lucy Papandrao, Academy Award winner DENZEL WASHINGTON as uptight, driven Dr. Phillip Chandler, DAVID MORSE (HOUSE) as earnest, tragedy-prone Dr. Jack Morrison, ELLEN BRY as wry nurse Shirley Daniels, BARBARA WHINNERY as ethereal Dr. Cathy Martin, TERRENCE KNOX as mercurial, violent Dr. PETER WHITE and, of course, the late ED FLANDERS as sorrowful, compassionate Dr. Donald Westphall. This script is a prime example of the funny, absurd, poetic, sad and existential twists and turns this show was known for.
