"Seventh Printing - 1948"

Personal Observations -- WOWSERS! this is another AWESOME find from my stash -- keep my Canadian seller list handy during the coming weeks for yet MORE treasures -- this religious biography was soooo popular, this is the seventh printing of the first edition of 1943. Walsh was a Catholic writer, an authority on 15th and 16th century Europe -- he won several awards -- a choice of the Catholic Book Club / the Laetare Medale by the University of Notre Dame in 1941 / the Cross of Comendadore of the Civil Order of Alfonso the Wise from the Spanish government in 1944, the first American to receive it. I fondly recall visiting the medieval walled city of Avila several times while I was studying / teaching in Spain, working on my doctorate in palaeontology [ fossils ] -- each time I went to the convent where Teresa lived and worked -- a most inspiring experience in my more youthful days. The plates are found on separate glossy stock pages with no printing on the back

the transparent plastic library dust jacket covering the dust jacket apparently was cut in half to fit this rather thick tome, thus the weird horizontal band seen in the above pic -- it seems to have been in some unidentified library, showing two discrete pencil markings inside / a label on the lower center dust jacket -- I see no rubbing on the expected cover extremities, having been well protected by the double dust jacket for some sixty - one dreary wet windy New Jersey autumns -- clean inside, tight binding -- the pages are printed on a quality high rag content paper stock which appear as slightly off white under my fluorescent desk lamp -- the top / bottom front / back cover borders show darkening where scotch tape was used to keep the library dust protector in place, nothing to write home about -- this interesting religious historical biography would make an awesome addition to your own Catholic biography library -- or as a gift for a friend / your church library
