STARBUCKS HEADQUARTERS MUG ~ Discontinued NIB

This is a new - never used, Architect Series Starbucks Mug of Starbucks World Headquarters Building in the SODO district of Seattle.

Note: This mug was discontinued by Starbucks in May 2009

The Headquarters mug is one of the most sought-after mugs because this is where Starbucks started and is still headquartered today.  The previous headquarters mug from the Skyline series is already selling for over $100 on eBay.

This beautiful mug features an architect's style drawing of the headquarters building that was originally built in 1912.  Starbucks moved  into the building in 1993.   The building sustained serious damage in the Seattle earthquake February 28, 2001 and was again remodeled and restored after that.

I have been in the building several times.  There are free complete coffee stations on every floor --each one a mini Starbucks where employees can make themselves lattes and any coffee.  Most of the employees are in cubicles --there are very few real offices.  Due to this there are dozens of conference rooms so employees always have a place to meet.

There is also a coffee tasting lab and a new products development lab in the building as well as a mini roasting center where new beans can be evaluated. This is the only place you can obtain a headquarters mug, although Starbucks sometimes sends them out as business gifts to vendors and important members of their stakeholders.

In late 2006, Starbucks officially changed the name of their worldwide headquarters to The Starbucks Support Center.

The legend on the back says:

Starbucks Support Center
Starbucks Coffee Company was founded in 1971

The Starbucks center building is the worldwide headquarters for Starbucks Coffee Company

Starbucks employees began moving into the building in 1993, 81 years after the building was constructed in 1912

The Siren was added to the top of the clock tower in 1997

At just over 2 million square feet and weighing 160 million pounds, the Starbucks Center Building is the largest building in Seattle.

The Architect Series replaced the earlier Destination series (often called the postcard mugs) which were not very successful with collectors. But the architect mugs rekindled collectors sprits and they have sold very well and are now climbing in price.

The Seattle mug is one of the most sought-after mugs because this is where Starbucks started and is still headquartered today.

All of my Starbucks mugs are brand new --never used. I rarely sell a used mug and if I do it will be clearly spelled out in the auction.

In 1994 Starbucks started the collectible city mug series. They produced mugs from dozens of major cities --first in the US and later all over the world. The city mugs became instant collectibles. Travelers were bringing them home from all over the country and the world.

The original plan was that you could only buy a city mug in that city. BUT - in 2004,  Starbucks found themselves with a large quantity of overstocked mugs and they started selling them in other cities. Collectors went nuts! Starbucks received hundreds of complaint letters from collectors who had paid big bucks for mugs from distant cities. (Some of the rarest ones such as Paris, Jerusalem, Alaska, Barcelona and Malta can sell for over $100 each. Other hard to get city mugs vary in price on eBay from $50 to $75.)

After all the mail and even negative newspaper articles, Starbucks promised never to sell the mugs out of their home city again --thus insuring the collectability and price stability of one of the hottest advertising collectibles in the world. Collectors are worldwide. I have sold Starbucks mugs to buyers in 15 different countries. This worldwide interest insures the collectability and steady increase in value of the mugs.

I collect Starbucks mugs and often sell Starbucks mugs and other collectibles on eBay. Please see my other auctions. If you win more than one item, I can combine them to save you shipping cost.

Shipping and handling and insurance for this mug is $5.90 via USPS Priority Mail to anywhere in the US. Yes - I could ship it cheaper, but this way you get positive delivery confirmation and your mug a lot faster.
