Offered here is a classic silver Navajo headstall made by the accomplished silversmith Hubert Cayatineto of Crownpoint, New Mexico. It is signed by the artist with an HC and stamped Sterling. The American Indian headstall ornamentation consists of 17 individual handmade pieces. There are two cheek strap slides on each side that measure 2 @ 1” x 4 ½” and 2 @ 1” x 3”. The “horns” or tips on each side measure approx. 5” long. The lower oval Conchos on each side are 2” x 1 ½” and the upper larger round Conchos measure 2 ½” in diameter. The ornaments on the bridle brow band total 5 pieces. The two to each side measure 1” x 1 ½” and the center piece with the turquoise stone measures 3” x 1 1/8”. The Conchas are all hand cut, hand shaped and hand die stamped. All of the slide pieces and horns are very simply decorated using a hand punch and chisel. The buckle and keeper on the throat latch are also decorated with hand die stamps and a chisel. The good quality, black headstall leather is ¾” and the throat latch is ½”, secured with cordovan brown ¼” lacing. We did not polish any on this nice piece to leave the patina in place. The whole piece is in unused condition. We collected it out of a Farmington, New Mexico pawnshop in 2004. It is the last headstall we have to offer so don’t let this fantastic piece of Native American equine jewelry get away. Horse not included.
