STIHL 020 AV USED VINTAGE ARBORIST TOP HANDLE  CHAIN SAW W/ 16" BAR:   This saw wasn't running properly in the Spring of 2008. I took it to a trained Stihl technician at a local Stihl dealer. He thoroughly checked it out and replaced fuel & ignition parts as noted below. His conclusion was that it needed a new carburetor. I looked but couldn't find one so bought another saw. The saw is offered "AS IS", does not run and is otherwise in great condition and has all the new parts and ignition upgrade installed. 
Included in this offer are:
  • Power head: 32 Cu. Centimeters(1.95 Cu. In.); Serial Number = 9232145. Made in West Germany
    • Upgraded to electronic ignition in 2008
    • New fuel lines and filter in 2008
    • New spark plug in 2008
    • Ultrasonically cleaned carburetor in 2008
    • Compression checked in 2008 = 119 psi (min. spec = 110 psi)
    • Clutch has been replaced in last few years (see photo of bottom)
  • Oregon chain; .25 P.
  • 16" bar w/ sprocket nose.
  • Wrench.
  • Instruction manual.
  • Misc. ignition & carburetor parts
 I'm reluctantly giving this saw up after 31 years of use because I couldn't find a carburetor (now I see several 020 AV parts sales that include carburetors on E-bay). I'm a home owner and purchased this saw new in April of 1976, used it for most of my wood cutting years, took great care of it and just love the reliability, balance, endurance, power to weight ratio and great service provided by Stihl dealers.

This saw is 33 1/2 years old and it's built with all metal case and covers (no plastic). It's a gutsy little saw with more displacement than the newer MS192T version. It's a great saw for the professional Arborist or the experienced homeowner. It's light weight, powerful and with a 16" bar will make quick work of small trees, large limbs and any other pruning and trimming.

ABOUT ME: I'm a retired Engineer and DIY type. This is my 2nd eBay listing so I want to do it right and make sure I correctly represent the product. I have a !00% buyer rating. Be sure and ask any questions you have.

11-9-09 Response to Question: Regarding your question about assurance that a carburetor is what's needed. As promised, I went to the Stihl repair shop to review what all was done to the saw and talked to one of the other techs as the tech. that worked on the saw was on medical leave. He told me the following: The practice is to check out all systems. IE compression, muffler not restricting, ignition (it has a good spark with the new electronic ignition), carburetion, fuel supply (new fuel lines, in-tank filter and fuel manifold were installed) and seals (this includes checking crankshaft seals, seals between the carburetor and crankcase and the valve between the carburetor and crankcase that seals the fuel/air mixture in the crank case). What was left was the carburetor itself and we couldn't find one at the time. Again I can't give you a guarantee and I'm representing this as accurate as I can. Both of these techs work on these Stihl engines all the time as they sell the Stihl products and use them in their rental business. Hope this helps. Anyone who has the parts to get this running will have a great saw.
