The mouthpiece on the left pictured above is an Everlast double mouthguard ordered directly from their website for $2.49, it is also what others are selling on Ebay claiming it as their own mandibular advancement device. The mouthpiece to the right is Anti-Snore®.

So what are the differences? 

1.  Sport mouthguards are not to be worn for long periods of time.  The material used to make sports mouthguards are harder and meant for absorbing impacts associated during game play.  The harder material used is not as flexible and may shift your teeth if worn for prolonged periods.

2.  The contour of sports mouthguards do NOT provide adequate grip and support on the users teeth to hold the lower jaw forward as they sleep.  Below is the picture showing the difference.

3.  The bite zone of a sports mouthguard is very thin compared to a mandibular advancement device.  It is important to have a device with a deep bite zone to get an accurate impression of teeth.  This ensures that the mouthpiece will stay in place as well as hold the lower jaw forward.  The inner ridge of the sports mouthguard is very narrow because the function of the mouthpiece is not meant to support your lower jaw as  Anti-Snore® is.
