While most Morgans minted in New Orleans exhibit flat strikes, this extraordinary specimen is fully struck with crisp detail. The devices stand out especially in the eagle's chest feathers and in the hair above Lady Liberty's ear. Attractive mint luster with soft golden undertones and pristine satiny fields complete this handsome 1879-O specimen, earning it a full Gem MS65 grade from PCGS.

Most of the original New Orleans mintage of Morgan Dollars has been lost to circulation or was melted down for reuse

Of the original 2,887,000 minted in 1879 only 8,355 have been graded by PCGS.

Out of the 8,355 specimens graded only 264 have been graded MS65.

Of the remaining specimens ONLY 13 have ever been graded higher!

Currently, Coin World Trends list the value of an 1879-O Morgan DOllar graded MS65 at: $4,000.00

That value already is a great bargain, especially when compared with the MS66 which typically commands upwards of $17,500.00
