This is an **EXTREMELY** RARE and IMPORTANT HISTORIC book from 1819, the FIRST year the Bible was ever printed in Spanish in the New World I.E. not in Europe.  This Bible was printed in New York and used to spread Christianity among the newly independent nations of South America and led to many subsequent editions, all of which are valued by collectors.

"This is an early reprint (the 7th edition, the 5th through 9th editions all appearing in 1823) of the 1819 edition of the New Testament in Spanish published by the American Bible Society, which was the first printing in Spanish of any portion of the Bible in the New World. To avoid controversy, and to appeal to Catholics, a translation approved for use in the Catholic Church was employed. This resulted in some criticism from the ABS's Protestant base, but proved a successful strategy to get the Scriptures into the hands of Spanish speakers in the newly independent nations south of the U.S."

Condition:  Very good. ALL of the text is in great condition and legible. Original spine is in great shape and all pages are very well bound, not in danger of falling out. Not bad for almost 200 years!  The re-bound cover is a hardcover and is in great shape. "Reimpreso" means reprinted, however no edition is given, and it is from the first year of printing. The first and last couple pages have some browning. These can be seen in the photo of the title page, and their absense can be seen in the photos of the interior pages. The pages were red edged and some of that has reddish color can be seen on the pages themselves near the edge.  Slight curving of bottom of spine.   p. 376  No Jacket. 10cm x 17cm.
