France, 1957 " L'ANE ", original medal in Copper, in excellent condition as scanned, silver plated, this is Rare a limited edition by the CFM (Club Français de la médaille) edge numbered 172/200 and marked with horn of plenty* (Paris mint) + "CU". Reference : see CGMP p98 Vol4. The donkey, Equus asinus, is a domesticated animal of the horse family, Equidae.
Obv. head of a donkey.
Rev. standing donkey. In legend : " not the highest nobility but useful and strong.

Roger BARON (1907-1994), French sculptor and medallist, pupil of Paupion and Wlérick. He worked in the workshop of Maxime Real del Sarte. Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur. Officier des palmes académiques. Professor of anatomy in the center for preparation of the professorship in drawing. Member of the national jury of the "Best Workmen of France". Member of the French Artists. Gold medal (off competition) at the Salon of 1948. Among many of his works in France and abroad, one can quote the Monument of Jean Mermoz in Santiago of Chile and the swords of the academicians Jean Rostand, Henri Normant and Étienne Wolff. Since 1932 exhibited at the following Salons : Artistes Français, Indépendants, Salon d'Automne et d'Hiver. |
