Hickman County was established in 1807 and its county seat is Centerville. The county is notable for having more springs and scenic waterfalls than any other county in Middle Tennessee. During the nineteenth century many of these springs were commercially developed as recreational sites. In addition to the springs, the county also had an early industry centered around the iron furnaces. Hickman County has thirteen Century farms and the oldest is the Pruett Farm that was founded in 1810.
