Singer/Songwriter Susan J Paul's music ranges from acoustic to electric, from blues to rock'n roll, reflecting the feelings and emotions of everyday life. Simply put, her sound is ecletic, never going out of style and drawing from various musical genres.

A MUST FOR ANY SUSAN J. PAUL MUSIC FAN!!!!!!

The NAC format is a true godsend for those artists whose styles skirt the over lapping territories of pop and jazz without snuggling too cozily into either one. Vocalist Susan J. Paul combines the most striking elements of both genres, even venturing once or twice into percussive world music on her attractive debut. Compared on occasion to Rickie Lee Jones (though Paul's pipes are all at once much smoother yet less distinctive), Paul serves up some sly and creative challenges to go along with the requisite and attention grabbing hooks present throughout. Despite all the airplay a few of these tracks received, Paul did a quick fade and was no longer a factor in her chosen genre by the mid-'90s.

A reissue of Susan's debut CD originally released in 1991. Human Factor was embraced by radio stations and music critics nation wide. The CD reached #7 on the Radio and Records Back Page with the strong support of stations like KTWV The Wave in Los Angeles and WQCD in New York. This success enabled Susan to spend 1991 and 1992 touring with artists, Graham Nash, David Wilcox, and jazz guitarist Grant Geissman. She also opened shows for Etta James and Cassandra Wilson.

"A tremendous new talent"
Jim Ladd, DJ (KLXS Los Angeles) and author.

"The next Rickie Lee Jones, Joni Mitchell or Suzanne Vega"
Glenn Mitchell, The Dallas Observer

Pursuing passion in music is SUSAN J. PAUL. Vibrant instincts as a creative artist are reflected in each of her four critically acclaimed releases' "Human Factor" (1991), "Naked Heart" (1997), "We Will Remember"(2002), and "Big Love" (2004). Here in her music, Susan blends soulful vocals with jazz, rock, and blues.

Ralph Stewart, long-time Music Director at KTWV (94.7, The Wave) puts it best when he says,” The most exciting part of this business is the hope of running across an occasional Susan J. Paul in your career." This immediate acceptance in the industry allowed Susan's first album "Human Factor" to rise to number seven on the Adult Contemporary Charts right behind Sting's "Soul Cages", receiving airplay on over 210 radio stations nationwide.

Jim Ladd, disc jockey and author, describes Susan as "a tremendous talent." He often plays cuts from her albums on his show (KLOS 95.5). This ability to bridge the gap between jazz and rock has allowed her to tour with David Wilcox, and Graham Nash.

"Her infectious voice," as Jonathan Widran (Music Connection
Magazine) describes it, has lent itself to the "Simply The Best" Toyota commercial, and song credits for the movie "Wild Grizzly".

Although the past few years have been shrouded by a diagnosis, a treatment, and a triumph over cancer, Susan's creative force has never been stronger. This victory is expressed in song on her new CD "Big Love". "My songs have always been about my journey, my unraveling. Every song feels like the first."

What they are saying about Susan…

Following the popularity of Susan J. Paul's "River of Hope" for the 2001 Religious Education Congress in Anaheim, CA, Susan was commissioned to write the theme song for the 2002 Congress. Susan responded with "We Will Remember" that became the title track to her new CD released by GIA Music in February 2002. "We Will Remember" is a collection of original Christian music featuring the popular anthem song "River of Hope" from the opening liturgy of the 2001 Congress.

Susan J. Paul was recently a featured artist  at the 2001 Religious Education Congress in Anaheim, California performing her increasing popular “River of Hope.” Susan, a new comer to the Congress’ cadre of popular artists, performed for a packed arena of over 20,000 during the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the event.

Prior to the Congress, Susan was approach by the Congress organizers to enhance the lyrics to the popular "River of Hope" featured on Naked Heart. The Music Director was so moved by the original song that he felt this track would make a perfect anthem for the Congress' Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The tune became so popular during the Congress that orders for sheet music and the single have been constant.

Choirs all over the United States have been ordering the music and requesting personal appearances by Susan.

The most exciting part of this business is the hope of running across an occasional Susan J. Paul in your career. With heartfelt songwriting and an unforgettable voice, it won’t be long before we have to quite comparing her to other artists, and begin using her name as a comparison for artists to come.
Ralph Stewart, Music Director, KTWV, Los Angeles

Ultra personal and scintillating live show is creative and unique.
Long Beach Press-Telegram

Paul is a wonderful new talent who recaptures a comfortable niche of music that is sorely missed – sweet soul/jazz, with a touch of the blues.
Norwest Arkansas Times

Naked Heart

Susan J. Paul (Sugarbone Records)

With the seeming avalanche of female folk/rock singers of late, the field seems to be getting a bit muddled. Record stores are packed with coffeehouse poets striving to capture the angst they feel over their last break-up, and what was novel is quickly becoming commonplace. This is the wall that all of Joni’s descendants must climb, and on Naked Heart, newcomer Susan J. Paul not only scales the wall, she hits the ground running.

Paul’s sensibilities are definitely rooted in folk, but her musical intuition knows no one path, and this air of experimentation keeps each turn exciting and fresh. A sassy bass opens the album with “One,” sweetly swaying underneath Paul’s sincere cry of “I will learn to breath, Breath you in me.” The title track sees Paul get bluesy and small, with her voice just above a whisper crooning a silky blues turn. She weaves in a brooding funk grind on “Free it up,” fleshing out it’s dark undertones. But it is on “River of Hope” that the singer/songwriter rally finds her niche. This anthemic call soars with the grace of a gospel hymn with a rock edge.

Paul possesses a great ear for hooks and hangs her lyrics on them well. This, combined with her imaginative approach, makes Naked Heart, a folk/rock album that can only be truly defined by itself.

Movies
Susan’s “River of Hope” was recently featured in the soundtrack to the movie, Wild Grizzly, produced by Brookwell, McNamara Entertainment for HBO.

Susan's appeared in the soon to be released movie Java Heads, performing "Naked Heart" the title track of her recent album.

Susan has taking a real liking to working on movie soundtracks, ever since one of her earlier tunes "Silence of the Night", co-written by James Donnellan, was featured in the Soundtrack to the movie 1992 HBO movie, Fatal Charm, starring Christopher Atkins.

Commercial Work
You know you had heard the voice somewhere…That’s right, Susan J. Paul was recently featured singing the Tina Turner classic, “Simply the Best” in a commercial for the Toyota Sienna Mini-Van.
