This auction is for an Authentic Hand coiled "Bear Print Large Vase" Pottery from the San Ildefonso Pueblo in New Mexico. It is approximately 7 1/4" tall and 10 1/2" wide.   It has a beautiful stone polished finish and a bear print pattern around the perimeter!  Pottery from the San Ildefonso Pueblo is among the most well known in the world. It is hand coiled , sanded, slip applied, stone polished and then fired outdoors. This color is fused into the pottery and will never come off.  This piece is signed on the bottom by the artist, "Doug & Charlotte Vigil".

Doug & Charlotte were both born in 1954 and have been making pottery since 1977. They gather the clay from the San Ildefonso Reservation and fire all of their pottery outdoors. Doug does the painting and Charlotte does the stone polishing. They were taught by Doug's parents Albert & Josephine Vigil. They are one of the few potters from San Ildefonso that specialize in Cream on Red pottery. Doug's grandmother, Juanita Montoya was the sister of Maria Martinez.  Doug passed away in 2007. These are one of kind pieces, therefore we take new pictures of every piece we sell. We want you to buy with confidence and be happy with your purchase! Since 1974, the Indian Arts and Crafts Association (IACA) with an Executive Office in Albuquerque, NM, has been instrumental in helping to promote and protect authentic American Indian arts and crafts.  The IACA is unique in that its membership is made up of individuals and businesses that represent the entire industry Indian arts: artisans, retailers, wholesalers, museums, governmental agencies, collectors and supporters.  It is an international organization whose mission is to support the effective protection and ethical promotion of authentic American Indian arts and crafts.
