All plants are from the legendary
Cactus Kate (Desert
Theatre) brought to California from Peru in the 1960s.
The top portion of the tip, from area of the left hand is new growth since being
harvested as a cutting.
Rooted spring-summer 2009, this is a super healthy plant right you can
up-pot to a large container next spring. The specimen is in its
original rooting pot
so please transplant next spring to stimulate continued root growth. 4 gallon
to 10 gallon would be a good size.
T. Peruvianus has several distinct
variations. See Bob Ressler's site
for more info. Once these reach a certain
size the annual growth is impressive. Tips can grow up to 24" in
one year under ideal conditions (root space, light, heat,
fertilizer & water). Trichocereus Peruvianus are rare
plants and very desirable to own.
Large specimens are expensive, hard
to find for sale and too difficult
to ship so you have to raise your
own. This one will grow into
a true
beauty! This species is native to Peru:
In the USA only zone 9 is safe
for outdoor planting. In zone 8 or
lower you may lose tips if
unprotected. These adapt well to
containers that you can be moved
inside during the winter.
Protect young plants during hard
freezes. Larger plants can survive
temperatures down to the mid 20s but
young tips may die back. Shipped in the
pot—never bare root! Bare rooting a plant damages the roots by drying them
out and causing some to break off. I never ship that way! All my
plants are shipped with soil in
their container as shown. You will receive a healthy, growing plant that
only needs light and water.

The most authentic San Pedro money can buy!
My San Pedro derive from an authentic strain imported by a botanist who
brought cuttings from Peru to California in the 1960's. He gave them to a local
grower, Cactus Kate (Jackson), who grew a large stand of Trichocereus Pachanoi
in Watsonville.
In 1987 Kate taught me how to propagate San Pedro cuttings. Violent ground
movement during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake snapped off many of the tallest
San Pedro tips. Kate phoned me to come by and load up the car with them. She
gave me enough to plant the stand shown here in Mountain View, California (photo
at top right).
Then 15 years later I moved the entire collection to the California Central
valley where they have been multiplying since 2004. Photos of the
mother plants Kate started me with...

grown without chemicals, or pesticides.
The owner, Frank, died at age 95 in 2008. He told me in 2004
that his San Pedro was 45 years old. So now it is probably 50
years old. I prune and maintain this specimen with great care.
