This mask is thought to represent either an ancestor related to the secret society of the Poro, or to be the materialized, supernatural spirit of a deceased person. There is little agreement as to the sex of this mask. Nevertheless, it seems to be probable that its sex is linked to the specific demands of the ritual in which it features.
