Ear Training
I'm a bass player. I have used these books and have learned and grown greatly as a musician as a result. Jamey Aebersold books are the "go to" resource for developing jazz musicians in particular, but are also very useful for students of other genres. If you can play jazz and understand what you're playing, you can play just about anything else.
Volumes 1, 3, 21, 24, 47, and 84 focus primarily on theory. Volumes 2, 5, 12, 42, 54, and 70 focus primarily on applying the theory by learning jazz songs. Ear training teaches the student how to recognize intervals, chords, and chord progressions when he/she hears them.
These books are worth over $200.
