This rod is built to fit the big Penn reels ... 16/0 .. 14/0 and 12/0. It was built with high profile boat guides that have zirconium insert rings. Zirconium rings are smoother, hard and dissipates heat better then any ring up to the silicon carbide rings. So if you like you can use braided line with these reels.
We used 10 of these guides on this rod to insure you have the very best line weight distribution available. These guides are made to withstand the rigors of all super braids or mono lines .... the rod blank is a Seeker 8 foot 40-100 lb JB80XH this it there eglass / Boron saltwater rod blank .. it is strong, durable and exceptionally light for such a big poundage rod .. The boron / eglass blend is exactly what the doctor ordered for land based sharking .. these rods start with the bottom 2/3s of then in graphite .. light and strong and stiffer .. the top 1/3 is more eglass .. more forgiving and durable .. the action on this rod blank is more parabolic then on all eglass blanks .. so you well have the action you need to handle big fish from shore. This is one of the only 8 foot length rod blanks that we feel good about using for land base sharking. This rod has black heavy duty, marine grade aluminum gimbal .. . I used a 10 inch Shark skin rear butt .. seemed appropriate .. shark skin is a very tough material, it will not get slick when wet and if you feel you need more texture on the grip just take a piece of sand paper to it and rough it up a little .. I put a custom diamond wrap under the shark skin to make it easier to hold .. it will also come out of rod holders easier then rods with foam rear grips .. The reel seat is a 28 mm marine grade aluminum from Forecast .. the 28mm is the largest size reel seat manufactured .. it will accommodate very large reels up to and including the Penn 14/0 and 16/0. I put a Aftco tuna block in front of the reel seat to give you a place to put your front support clamp, this will keep it off the front foam .. the fore grip is a triangular 13 inch EVA foam grip that we had manufactured to our specifications .. it is very easy to hold .. the triangular shape will help you keep the rod from twisting and turning .. It is also much easier on your hands in a prolonged fight then the traditional round grips ...we have found the 13 inch triangular fore grip, is the grip of choice for the land based sharkers we've spoken with .. On this rod the guides are under wrapped in black and not trimmed .. these rods may be built in about any color combination you'd like note we may or may not have this rod in stcok at the time of your order ... we attempt to keep the blanks and components to build this rod in stock, so the turnaround time is usualy 7-10 days. We can underwarp this rod in a varitiy of thread colors at the same price. Write for options. Don't let the beauty of this rod fool you, it is a true work horse with guides that are exceptionally strong and smooth, a rod that is strong and durable and has superior lifting power, and it is custom built tough, right here in the USA. If you are the winning bidder on this rod we will place your name or boats name on the rod at no additional charge. OR you may opt for and shark logo instead. |
