"The Abbey", built in 1869-70, was designed by S. D. Button as the summer home of John B. McCreary, a Pennsylvania coal baron and state senator. Built in Gothic Revival Style, "The Abbey" features a 60 foot tower with an exaggerated mansard roof. In 1970, the served for a time as a Christian Science Church, but more recently, it has become a bed & breakfast furnished with Victorian antiques and artifacts.
"Shelia Thompson began her business in 1979 with only $5.00 and a borrowed saw, with the hope that their “pretty little houses” would “help people better understand the historical legacy left by the great men and women who built our American nation.” Shelia's Collectibles are a made in historical Charleston, South Carolina and preserve slices of history from historic lighthouses, Colonial West Virginia, and American barns.
This was received as a gift and was never displayed. It has been stored and the box does show minor aging.
