About SignTools3 & CorelDRAW
One of the most frustrating problems sign & graphics professionals face is trying to make their sign designs and graphics CUT & PRINT OUT the same way they look on screen!
Many new cutting plotters have arrived on the scene lately. Most are very good plotters, but the one component that is lacking is the included software, which is usually very basic text and limited graphics software.
For more sophisticated graphics and designs, these limited software programs leave you flat, and you are forced to upgrade or buy another software program. Look to spend another $750 to $1,000, depending on what you need, for the new software. Many sign design programs cost $2,000 up to $5,000!
The alternative for some, is to turn to CorelDRAW. Using CorelDRAW is a natural, as every shop has to buy CorelDRAW sooner or later. It's a given...sort of the "de-facto" standard in the industry. And let's face it...CorelDRAW IS the best for sign, screen print and graphic designers!
CorelDRAW offers a feature, although limited, that allows you to cut from their program by sending plot data to a cutting plotter. The problem here is one of limitations again. CorelDRAW is a premium design software...but not a premium CUTTING PLOTTER software. So again you face limitations and you have to perform several "duties" to your designs & graphics before you can get them to cut. Other limitations include the lack of specific Plotter dynamic controls that enhance cut quality, sizing , repeats, point cut spread controls, speed and other needed control features....
SignTools3 eliminates these problems!
Most people get fed up trying to cut directly out of CorelDRAW to their plotters. That's why most people buy a dedicated Sign Making program. BUT traditional dedicated "Sign Making" software is VERY expensive, usually costing thousands of dollars! And the cost of constantly updating these expensive software systems is also very costly, usually costing upwards of a hundred of dollars every time there is a NEW update!

Scanning & Vectorizing Bitmaps

AUTOMATIC & PRESET VECTORIZING
CorelDRAW couples with SignTools3 SPECIAL EDITION software to provide a very powerful scanning processor and bitmap image vectorizing tool, thus allowing SignTools3 to 'cut' your scanned image in vinyl or nearly any other sign graphics media.
SignTools3 and CorelDRAW work together with your Twain or WIA (Windows Vista & XP only) compatible scanner!
INPUT IMAGES FROM YOUR SCANNER OR DIGITAL CAMERA!
You can load images from your Scanner or Digital Camera into CorelDRAW for editing and cutting in SignTools3 & CorelDRAW X3 !
CorelDRAW X3 supports scanners that use Microsoft Windows Image Acquisition (WIA), which provides a standard interface for loading images. If your scanner or digital camera does not support WIA, you can use the scanner’s or digital camera’s TWAIN driver for loading images.
VECTORIZING SCANNED OR DIGITAL PHOTOS
The process is simple with many of the functions assigned to 'presets'. This allows you several intelligent 'pre-selected' parameter settings you may select to easily obtain optimal results.
You may also select the Automatic Quick Trace Vectorization mode. In this mode the process is handled for you automatically with the software selecting optimal settings for you!
Each preset style is a collection of settings that are appropriate for the specific type of bitmap you want to scan and vectorize, for example, line art or a high quality photo. This makes the process simple with excellent results.

Vectorizing the Bitmap
First, scan or import the image bitmap into CorelDRAW with SignTools3. Then, you will use the Power Trace Vectorize feature in CorelDRAW.
When you use this feature to vectorize a bitmap image for cutting, you can preview and adjust the results until you are satisfied. Using the 'preset' styles, you can easily get the quality results that are required for your application.

Above, you can view the vectorized (traced) image in a larger window, or view the 'outline' over the image by selecting 'Large Preview' or 'Wire frame Overlay' from the 'Preview' drop-down list.

The adjusted image above left is viewed in the 'wire frame' preview mode shown above in the image on the right. This is the vectorized graphic that you will be working with in SignTools3 & CorelDRAW that you will ultimately be sending to your cutting plotter or printer/cutter.
You can further edit the vector image, add or delete other elements and assign any color to any of the vectorized components of the logo.
The individual colors in this logo will later be selected to be 'cut by color' in the SignTools3 program, allowing you to cut only the items of a particular vinyl color, one at a time. Then you just select a different logo color to be cut in the SignTools3 cut menu and load the appropriate color of vinyl onto your plotter to be cut! It's simple and efficient!
ADDING TEXT TO VECTORIZED LOGO
Lets add some TEXT to your logo you just scanned and vectorized....
Say you want to add TEXT on a circle or oval. No problem! It's simple!
Many time the text that was vectorized is not satisfactory. Or you want to replace the text with new wording, without changing the background of the logo. You can do this easily, and more, without affecting the rest of the image.
The vectorized image is really a GROUP of individual objects. You can edit them separately by first ungrouping the objects that make up the logo.
Then you will delete the original vectorized TEXT and the text background objects, and replace them with new objects.
To make the NEW text slightly curved to match the logo's text area, you will create a curved PATH by using the ellipse tool (or circle tool) and then type the text along the curved path.
In the images below, you will see where we removed the original vectorized text in the left image. In the right image you will see where we inserted an ellipse (which will later be removed) to aid in positioning the text.

In the left image below, you will see where the TEXT has been applied to the ellipse, however the TEXT was created on the OUTSIDE of the curved path.
In the right image below, we have MIRRORED the text horizontally to render the text correctly. The RED DIAMOND in the image is used to position the text and does not cut or print.
Next, get rid of the red ellipse by clicking on it and selecting 'No Color' in the Color Palette selector.

Your ellipse is now rendered invisible. Here is your finished logo below!

MAKING CHANGES
Since your logo is still UNGROUPED, you can change colors, objects, text and all other parameters of each individual object.
You can apply any of the 30 SignTools3 Special Design Tools to the logo as well !
Once your logo is finished, group all the objects and save your logo. You can now use SignTools3 to CUT your logo in vinyl or any other sign media.
Below you will see some changes made to the logo. Look closely to see the added shadow effects and object color changes. These are quick and easy using SignTools3 and CorelDRAW!

Cutting With SignTools3 'GRS SPECIAL EDITION' Software
|
With the GRS SignTools3 SPECIAL EDITION, it's easy to cut from CorelDraw. Unlike other Corel add-ons, the SignTools program doesn't open another window from which you cut.
SignTools runs from within CorelDRAW. You never have to leave the CorelDRAW screen!
There is no need for a cut preview window because it works on the WYSIWYG ( What You See Is What You Get ) principal.
You simply design you graphics, move them to the bottom left of your CorelDraw page and click on the Cut button.
You can choose All Objects OR Selected Objects Only.. You can design in full color and it is not necessary to place hairline outlines on your objects to get them to cut! With SignTools3 Special Edition, it's automated for you!
Time Saving Productivity Tools
Another quality tool in SignTools 3 is the Select By Color tool.
This tool scans a document for all the fill colors, separates them and places each individual color on a different page with registration marks and weed boxes.
