Signed New England WINTER LANDSCAPE Oil/Bd c1940
ITEM	This is an exceptionally well painted oil on canvas, that was done c1940.  It is a vertical landscape with a prominent river running up the center of the picture.  The banks are snow covered and the bare trees reach up to a cloudy gray sky.  In the background, in the banks of the river, is what appears to be a New England mill town and further in the background is a mountainous terrain reminiscent of Southern Vermont or New Hampshire.   This brilliant image has a strong folk art quality.  It is signed lower right -- in fact, it has writing in two places in the lower right (see photos) and neither place is actually legible, unfortunately.  The signature appears to be J. R??? (4th photo).  The other one we can't even guess at! (3rd photo).   We assume one is a signature and one is the title of the work or possibly the place name but we cannot decipher either one (see 3rd and 4th photos). This attractive oil painting is nicely framed in a wood mid-century frame that is quite appropriate to the work and most likely original to the piece.

Condition	Good condition.  No damage.  No paint loss, no tears, no repairs, no inpainting.  The frams is in good shape as well.
Provenance	This item comes from an exceptional estate ... with three floors of an exquisite Victorian home that were just packed with treasures ... from exceptional art to fine antiques which represented all periods from the mid 19th through the Eames era of the middle of the 20th century.  Their fine art collection was impressive, with numerous listed artists and they had many decorative accessories from the finest makers.
