Probably too well! But the problem doesn't seem to be truly fixed does it?

SlackBash has been developed by owners and users of Meade telescopes who have had their fair share of frustrations. This sleek software utility will help you to fix:

• Auto-guiding problems such as slow response followed by a big jump or overshoot

• Sluggish, little or no response to hand-controller commands to move the 'scope at low slew speeds - even after a 'train drives'

• Adjusting active backlash settings without having to go through the entire fiddly "train drives" routine!

• Variable backlash as the telescope moves about the axes and weight shifts if not perfectly balanced or when passing through the zenith when tension on the gears "swaps" sides as the telescope 'flops'.

• Checks for Autostar responses on the selected port so that you are sure you are sending commands to your Autostar hand controller.

• SlackBash automatically identifies polar or Alt/Azimuth alignment from your Autostar and labels the correction buttons accordingly. The user may choose to override these labels if desired.

• Remembers all settings from one use to the next. (A very small configuration file is placed in your SlackBash© directory - your Windows Registry is left untouched and you put SlackBash© exactly where you want it!)

• No need to 'connect' or 'disconnect'* SlackBash© from your COMM port - SlackBash© only opens the port to actually send a command and closes it as soon as the command is sent to your Autostar. SlackBash© quickly adjusts your backlash settings and never leaves a COMM port open - and never keeps a port open when it's not being used!
  * You will still have ensure that other software (such as Autostar Suite or Autostar Envisage) are disconnected momentarily from the port before it can be used by SlackBash©.

• Works with Autostar 495 or 497 hand controllers, utilising the active backlash features documented for the Meade LX200GPS - it has been tested and works with Autostar 497's (Firmware version 40Eb) and LXD-55's, LXD-75's and ETX 'scopes and Windows 9x/2000/XP/Vista. Though not tested, it should also work on any Meade LX200 or LX200GPS with Autostar II and Meade firmware version 4.0l (LX200) or 2.0e (RCX) equipped with a 495 or 497 controller and Meade firmware version 40Eb or newer.

SlackBash^© will NOT work with Autostar 494's.
