DESCRIPTION
Think about how many times a day you adjust the lights in your kitchen and dining area. You turn those bright kitchen lights on when you're cooking; when it's time to eat, you turn the dining room lights on and the kitchen lights off (if you remember). And how many times have your kids left every light in the area on when they're doing homework at the kitchen table?
By setting up lighting scenes, you'll not only have one-button access to appropriate lighting for each daily activity, you'll also be saving energy by turning lights off automatically when they're not in use. The INSTEON Kitchen Lighting Starter Kit will control up to five lights or sets of lights in your kitchen and dining areas from a single wall-mounted keypad. Best of all, everything you need to set up and control these lights is contained in a single easy-to-install kit that programs in minutes.
Easy Setup and Programming
The INSTEON Kitchen Lighting Starter Kit comes with two dimmers, a light switch, a plug-in module, and a wall-mounted keypad to control them all, as well as a pair of signal enhancers to ensure network reliability. INSTEON-compatible dimmers, switches, and keypads simply replace your existing light switches; no new wiring is required.
Install the keypad in a central location to the lights you'll be controlling. Its main button will control the light or lights your existing switch controls. The dimmers can replace light switches that control any incandescent lighting; use the on/off switch to replace a switch controlling fluorescent kitchen lights or any other non-dimmable load. A plug-in module is included in this kit for hard-to-reach lights, such as under-cabinet lighting or a remote lamp. Linking all of these lights to the keypad is done with the press of a button and can be completed in minutes!
Setting Up Lighting Scenes
The keypad will let you set up four separate lighting scenes in addition to turning its controlled light on and off and dimming it. Linking is as easy as setting the scene button into linking mode by pressing it and holding it and then pressing the ON button on a light to be controlled. Follow this guide or create your own!
Scene 1: Cooking Set up your cooking scene so that with the press of a button, your kitchen lights will come on to full brightness. Under-cabinet lighting can turn on in this scene, as well, since you'll need to have a clear view of the veggies you're chopping and the spices you're adding to each dish. Dining area lights can remain unlit.
Scene 2: Dinner Time Ready to serve? Tap the keypad button labeled "Dinner Time," and your dining area lights will ramp on slowly to your desired brightness level. Under-cabinet lighting can turn off, since it won't be needed during the meal, and kitchen lights can either turn off entirely or dim to 50 percent if you'll be going back for different courses or condiments.
Scene 3: Romantic Will it just be the two of you tonight? Skip the "Dinner Time" scene and tap "Romantic" instead. This lighting scene will dim all lights in the area to 50 percent for instant mood lighting and a meal with ambience.
Scene 4: Homework The dishes are done, the leftovers are in the fridge, and the grownups are heading to the den for some relaxing couch time, but the kids will be at the kitchen table for the next couple of hours, working on their homework. It's time for the "Homework" scene: Press this button to turn off the kitchen lights, the under-cabinet lighting, and the dining room light, and this scene will also trigger the bright light over the kitchen table to come on to full strength so that the kids can see what they're reading.
Labeling Keypad Scene Buttons
You can keep track of the different scenes easily by labeling the buttons with the included pre-printed labels or by ordering custom laser-etched keypad buttons (available for 6-button KeypadLincs and 8-button KeypadLincs).
Additional KeypadLinc Benefits
This lighting control kit provides tremendous flexibility. Other wall-mounted keypads only provide on/off control, each KeypadLinc button can perform up to four different functions. Press a button once for ON; press again for OFF. Press and hold to brighten, press and hold again to dim. If you prefer, turn off the toggle feature to send the same command every time. This is a helpful feature when programming an "all on" command button to press when you get home or "all off" command button to press when you leave for the day. The buttons on the INSTEON KeypadLinc Dimmer illuminate when ON signals are sent, allowing the keypad to monitor lights in other rooms.
Expanding Your Lighting Control
Once you've started controlling these lights with a single button press, you'll likely find you want to expand your network to turn other lights on and off remotely. Luckily, your INSTEON network can grow to include an unlimited number of lights and controllers. Add more dimmers and relay switches, plug-in lamp dimmers and control them with as many wall-mounted keypads or tabletop controllers as you like.
