 This frame allowws full hand approach from all sides.  It has a little less space between the base of the frame and the gripper rails than the Highboy has.  This was designed for smaller ruggers (5'4" and shorter - with non-bulky forearms) and those who may be having shoulder problems.

 For those who really give their rug hooking frames a work out,  we highly encourage you to consider the Deluxe models.

The following is general information about all the Snap Dragon Frames.  Please read it carefully, as all the frame tops are made the same way.

• Functional: Snap Dragon Frames (TM) are the new wave in fabric stretching frames for old fashioned rug hooking.  Invented in January of 2005 by Stephen R. Schmidt Jr., this fine handcrafted frame gives you the leverage you need to achieve a tight hooking surface using only finger or hand strength.  It will, with a "snap" of the paddles, stretch your rug backing tight and hold it that way until you release the tension and remove the fabric.  The patented self-locking cam-activated system for stretching rug backing is simple and quick to operate, offering an ideal solution for rugcrafters with little hand strength, allowing them to both pull the backing fabric tight and create even loop heights to produce a more uniform product.  The 17.125" x 14.625" frame leaves an ample 13.5" x 11" working area and can be mounted on several different base and leg assemblies so you can choose your preferred mode of hooking.   It is comfortable to handle, well balanced and weighs between 4.75 and 6.5 Lbs, depending on the model.
• Protective:  This is a frame you can actually cuddle up to!  Designed originally as a lap frame, great care has been taken to round and smooth all surfaces that come in contact with the body.   The gripper strips are recessed in their poplar tracks to reduce  your exposure to the needles, without reducing their effectiveness at "gripping" the fabric ....AND.... the Snap Dragon Frame (TM) allows you to flip the gripper rails upside down when the frame is not in use to reduce exposure to the grippers and potentially avoid injury. 
• Adaptable:   While the Snap Dragon Frame (TM) is well balanced and sits comfortably on the lap, we have adapted the frame to suite numerous floor stands and sit-upon stands currently available on the market.   Let us know which stand you prefer so we can set up your frame to fit.  Should you change your mind about the style of frame you want to use, conversion parts are also available.
• Repairable:  The Snap Dragon Frame (TM) is designed to allow parts to be interchangeable.  Should a part break or wear out, replacement parts or assemblies are available to get your machine working properly again.  Our Snap Dragon Frame (TM) comes with a One Year Limited Non-Transferrable Warranty and our  Snap Dragon DELUXE Frame (TM) comes with a Three Year Limited Non-Transferrable Warranty.
• Beautiful:  It really looks great!!!  The Snap Dragon Frame is made primarily of poplar with either cherry or walnut accents.  The woods are hand sanded and finished with several coats of clear lacquer to bring out the natural beauty and character of the wood.  Our new Snap Dragon DELUXE Frame (TM), has milled aluminum accents for added strength and durability.  The legs are made of lightweight but strong aluminum strapping, adding a silvery touch.  The Snap Dragon Frame (TM) is a beautiful tool you will be proud to own!

The Snap Dragon Rug Hooking Frame is truly the most innovative and functional tool made specifically for rug hookers in decades.   This frame was designed by Stephen R.
