Hi everyone! After my 4 year-old grandson told me all about the interesting explorations he had at his first nature day camp, I thought that would be a fun new theme for my Corgis. So here is Camp Corgi's Nature Trail, a lively path through field and stream with ten Pembroke Corgis sharing varied experiences--this was fun, and I had a hard time not to keep adding endless Corgis. I've created this scene entirely by hand from ceramic clay to be the only of its kind I'll do.
To describe the action: starting at the left is Camp Corgi's sign for the beginning of the nature trail, enhanced with two welcoming Bluebirds. Then there are two Corgi birdwatchers, one with binoculars, one with an open bird book to the "Owls" page. And they've spotted one on a tree stump. In front of them another Corgi has his magnifying glass, looking for interesting insects, some of which he already has in a jar next to him. Next, the stream, and a redheaded tri is tip-toeing across on stones. Another Corgi is head first under water and another is fishing from above. Popping out of the hollow tree stump, one particularly precocious Pem flaunts a friendly black snake, much to the shock of another nearby Corgi. Then there is the little tri Corgi communing with frogs, and she's lying in the froggy position no less. And lastly, our butterfly collector, swinging his net purposely to snag a colorful trophy.
After handsculpting all the parts and painting them in detail, I attached everything together with liquid clay to form the scene, adding in sculpted grasses, plants, flowers, fish, frogs, birds, butterflies, snake, sign, magnifying glass, jar, bird book, butterfly net, tree, stream, path, rocks and base. Two high temperature kiln firings bonded everything together in a permanent glazed finish. I've signed and dated this on a rock in the back, Barbie Sonnett 2008.
Measurements: 9" in total length, 3" at the widest, 3" from the bottom to the top of the Corgi's ears in the tree stump.
