This unit has been completely serviced and tested by be and is in Great shape. As this is a Pro Editing deck it uses direct drive motors for the tape functions. It does not use rubber drive belts. It does have a rubber pinch roller and a nylon ribbed belt to load the cassette. Both of these items have been replaced with new Sony factory parts. Additionally I have rebuilt the power supply even though it was working. I have replaced the components that are known to fail to reduce future problems. I have also aligned the video head/tape path per Sony Specs. Lastly I have performed the lubrication and maintenance of the moving parts and mechanisms as recommended by Sony.

Mechanical Section I carefully inspect the drive motors and other moving parts in your vcr to ensure years of dependable service Many VCRs have been stored away for years. This causes the Rubber belts, idler wheel tires and pinch rollers to dry out and become slick and brittle. This is why the tapes won't play and also why the machine will "eat" the tapes. If they work. They won't last long. "If it's not good enough for me to keep for myself. I won't sell it."		Power Supply Section I check the power Supply Section for weak or defective components. Weak, old or dried out parts can cause poor quality video and/or loss of power to your VCR Power Supply will be completely checked out and old dried out capacitors and other components replaced as needed. As always, Dried up, out of tolerance capacitors essential to the tracking and picture quality have been replaced with new ones		Video Section Using state of the art test equipment I clean and align the video heads and the tape path to factory specs. Video Heads checked and Aligned using Sony KR5-1V Professional Alignment Tape and Sencore Video Waveform Analyzer

This is not one of those auctions where the seller does not have a tape to test it with. I was repairing Betas in 1985 when they were in their heyday. I know what usually wears out on these VCRS. There are many Betamax VCRs being sold on eBay. Most have not been used in years. If you know anything about electronics. You know that you cannot leave a complicated piece of electronics in a closet for 15 years without doing some maintenance on it before putting it back into service. If you are planning to copy your valuable home movies of your family to dvd. Please invest in a refurbished unit so your tapes won't be damaged! You will see many auctions for Beta VCRs that have descriptions as follows... "I don't have a beta tape to test it with", "It powers up and was working the last time I used it 10 years ago!" "I got it at an estate sale and don't know anything about it" "Played an old Bob Hope Movie with no problems!" If you see statements like these I would click the "back button" and find a different auction.
Some sellers are just replacing some basic parts and claiming the unit has been refurbished. There are several components in these VCRs that should be replaced in addition to the rubber belts and wheels. This requires a higher lever of expertise and a lot of very expensive test equipment. Some sellers will write a 1000 word essay stating all the work they have done but only show the unit sitting on their kitchen floor with the top off! Who are they kidding? It that as much of the repair process they want you to see? Why are they afraid to show you pictures of the unit being repaired? What are they hiding? Maybe they are just lazy!
