The top lot of the sale was a superb and rare Cycladic Marble Figure of a Man, Early Bronze Age I, circa 3200-2700 B.C., which sold for $1,314,500, the highest price achieved for a Cycladic work at auction since 1988. Egyptian art in particular was sought-after, with nearly every work offered finding a buyer.
Egyptian works accounted for five of the top ten lots in the sale. Chief among them was an Egyptian Basalt Bust of a Queen or Goddess, Ptolemaic Period, 305-30 B.C., which soared past a high estimate of $60,000 to sell for $1,082,500. Other highlights included an Egyptian Wood Ushabti of Rameses IX, 20th Dynasty, 1131-1112 B.C., which sold for $542,500 (est. $80,000/120,000) and Egyptian Diorite or Basalt Figure of a Man, 26th Dynasty/early Ptolemaic Period, 664-300 B.C., which brought $422,500 (est. $200/300,000).
