We have faithfully* reproduced the grinding gage used to check a tool’s side and front clearance and tool cutting angle! Made from 16 g, 304 stainless steel, (*thicker than the original to last a lifetime)!

  The last original SBL one just sold for over $99.00! For about 1/10 the price you can have a heavier duty model with all the same functions! Comes with simple instructions with diagrams. Every machinist’s chest should have one! Not just for Southbend lathe owners! Any home shop machinist, gunsmith, steam or gas / locomotive / train model maker using any lathe like Atlas, Logan, Taig, Sherline, Monarch, Hardinge, Grizzly, Emco, Enco, Prazi, LeBlond, Clausing, Boxford, Boley, Craftsman, Delta, Rockwell, Myford or any of the chinese imports! ORIGINAL SBL GAGE SEEN IN PIC IS NOT INCLUDED!

 Some have questioned the different appearance of the angles between the two gages. The angles are exactly the same on both. We used a larger triangular cutout* on our reproduction, (same angles), to give the cutting point of the tool more room. The SBL's gage was originally stamped and we found that where the triangular cutout intersects the little circle was sometimes pinched too tight or left a burr not allowing the tool to register properly.
