Slappin' Fresh Ugly Face Jug
16th in my new series, The 'Smack'd' Jugs
By emerging potter, Van Hine
Not sure where to begin, so lets start in the middle. I am fairly new to the world of ceramics but I know I have found my true passion in clay! Only been working on the potter's wheel for three years. And I began making whisky face jugs last year. First started offering my work at local craft shows about six months ago. Many of my pieces are sold through art/craft shows in Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. Most people find that my work swings the gamut from whimsical to downright creepy(depending on my mood) with many degrees in between. Now, you have an opportunity to collect one of my works without having to go to the show! And you get the first opportunity to aquire new pieces before they go to a show!!!
"I know ugly!" - Van Hine
With many people today focused on beauty and having everything looking just right, why not pay a little attention to those things in life who aren't so cute and cuddly? So, let's forget perfect for a while. Let down your hair, kick back - and let's celebrate ugly!!
My ugly face jugs start their life as a shapeless lump of clay. After much poking, prodding, and smooshing - whoila! An ugly face jug is born. Some are only mildly afflicted, others have serious cases of ugly. And a few are even fugly! Which do you prefer?
Join me on my journey to discover the ultimate in ugly! And while you are here, why not collect one for yourself or a friend?
Smack'd Jugs.
This jug got a little too fresh with me when I was having a bad clay day. Strikingly similar to a bad hair day. (I have plenty of those as well -the worst involve
clay and
hair!! ) I got mad at him and look what happened. He got 'Smack'd!!! Ouch! That had to hurt!! This jug is the 16th in my Smack'd series. Measures 10" tall. Shiny bronze metallic stoneware glaze.
Thrown on the wheel, altered/sculpted by hand and then fired & glazed. My work is hand carved - NEVER MOLDED! Each jug is unique. No two are ever exactly alike - although they may seem similar - they are just part of a series of themed jugs. Dishwasher safe, functional piece.
Each face jug is signed on the bottom. Every jug comes with a signed and dated certificate of authenticity. Each certificate bears my studio logo, the series name and number of the jug as well as a photo of the jug.
Does this face put a smile on yours? Then add this whimsical piece to your face jug collection today!
