EXTREMELY RARE: (1922) COVERED ROUND CASSEROLE DISH, MADE BY BUFFALO CHINA ( also known as buffalo pottery) for SOUTHERN RAILWAY in the "SR-1 BUSINESS" pattern. This is referenced in (Luckin's Dining on Rails) page 241. This pattern was used on early Business Cars and Saw Service on regular diners in later years. This stock pattern (Buffalo called "York") was customized for Southern Railway with the Gold Pinstripe and RR backstamp. This does not have the RR backstamp, but does have the railroad's custom Gold Pinstripe that was added to the Southern Railway pieces to customize them, unlike the stock pieces. Which is also noted in Mcintyre's " The Official Guide to Railroad Dining Car China". This can also be found on Replacements.com under buffalo pottery "business". This pattern was also used by the Pennsylvania Railroad. This CASSEROLE measures 10-1/2" from end of handle to end of other handle and 2-3/4" deep without cover, with cover on it is about 4-1/4" tall. Notice the beautiful raised gold leaf pattern where handles are. There is a tiny bit of gold wear in just a few spots and a couple very small nicks underneath on the bottom ( they cannot be seen unless you turn it over ) (see pics) not bad at all. Other than that this is in excellent condition. On the bottom marked Buffalo China with the year it was made "1922".
