In the darkness of the forty-first millennium, mankind is assailed on all fronts by perfidious aliens, degenerate traitors, and treacherous rebels. There is no escape from the horror and slaughter, the only alternative is to meet the threats and defeat them. This is the destiny of the Space Marines of the Adeptus Astartes, fearless champions of humanity and unforgiving crusaders against the enemies of the Emperor of Mankind. Since the founding of their legion at the birth of the Imperium, the Space Marines of the Dark Angels have been dreaded by their enemies and held in awe by those they protect. Stubborn and relentless in battle, ever vigilent and zealous in the pursuit of their duties, the Dark Angels are among the Emperor's most faithful servents.
Though the Dark Angels' name is spoken across the Imperium, very few know the tale of their origins. The truth is that they once teetered on the very brink of heresy, that a terrible betrayal besmirched all of the Chapter's feats of valour and left an indelible stain on their honour. From that time, they have striven for absolution. Only the highest ranking members of the Dark Angels know the terrible secret that drives their Chapter to search through space and time for the traitors who betrayed the Emperor. Thousands of years ago, during the dark time of the Horus Heresy, the Emperor of Mankind was betrayed by entire Legions of his Space Marines. These traitors battled against loyal Space Marines in a civil war that nearly destroyed the Imperium. However, one Space Marine Legion battled internally to determine which master it would serve: the Emperor or Chaos. Brother fought brother on this Legion's homeworld — the battle so fierce that they destroyed the entire planet. The loyal Space Marines prevailed, though many of the faithless survivors escaped into the Warp. To this day, the descendants of those loyal Space Marines strive to erase the shame represented by their fallen brothers. That Legion bore a famous name: the Dark Angels.
Obsessed with the idea that they can remove this ancient stain on their honor through unfaltering zeal, the Dark Angels have fought the enemies of the Emperor with grim determination. Their Space Marines and Scouts are uniquely versatile, capable of splitting into smaller Combat Squads to better handle the foe. Their Terminators, all assigned to one Company called the Deathwing, are considered to be among the greatest warriors in the Imperium. Their bone-white armor marks their willingness to die for the Emperor.
However devoted the Dark Angels may be to the Emperor, their obsession with hunting their fallen brethren sometimes conflicts with their duty to the Imperium. The Dark Angels 2nd Company, known as the Ravenwing, is made up of high-speed units whose hidden role is that of mobile hunters, prowling for traitorous ancestors. Once found, the Ravenwing and the Dark Angels will drop whatever they're doing to capture or kill these debased heretics, no matter the cost to themselves or the Imperium.
COMBAT DOCTRINE
With the break up of the Space Marine Legions after the Horus Heresy, the Dark Angels were split into Chapters according to Roboute Guilliman's Codex Astartes. With the exception of the Deathwing and the Ravenwing, the Dark Angels follow standard Space Marine combat doctrine. However, in situations where even other Space Marines would fall back, the Dark Angels will fight to the bitter end rather than give ground to their foes. This tenacity is also reflected in their stubborn refusal to move in the face of the enemy, even in situations where it would sometimes be tactically beneficial for them to do so.
The Dark Angels are also notoriously intolerant of non-humans and will refuse to fight alongside armies that include alien races. They are highly suspicious of outsiders and often appear unreasonably aloof and intransigent. Indeed, there have been a number of occasions where the Dark Angels have withdrawn suddenly and with no explanation from a warzone when confronted by an Imperial Inquisitor or Missionary.
Space Marine Chaplains attend to the spiritual well being of their battle brothers. They are often found in the thickest of the fighting, exhorting their comrades to even greater acts of bravery.
The Chaplains administer the rites of their chapter, preform the ancient ceremonies of initiation and vindication, and chant the liturgies of battle as they lead their brothers to war.
A Space Marine Chaplain may be added to your Space Marine army as an HQ choice. They may be accompanied by a veteran command squad or terminator command squad.
Dark Angels Chaplains are known as Interrogator Chaplains, for it is their sacred duty to attempt to make those of the Fallen who are captured repent their past. The Chaplain is allowed to add a single black pearl to his rosarius for each of the Fallen he convinces to repent. Those that refuse to do so inevitably die in agony during the interrogation, as the Chaplain is forced to use ever more drastic measures to make clear the error of their ways.
Asmodai, Interrogator-Chaplain may be included in your Dark Angels army of 1,500 points or more as an HQ choice.
Space Marines are humanity's finest warriors. Genetically tailored for their role and utterly loyal to the Emperor, the Space Marine Chapters represent mankind's greatest hope of victory in the unending wars for survival. A Space Marine is stronger and tougher than an ordinary human, with faster reflexes and superior co-ordination.
All Space Marines belong to a warrior cult. Space Marines are therefore spiritual brothers as well as brothers in arms. This dual role as physical and spiritual warriors is very important, and it is what makes the Space Marines so dedicated.
