On July 26, 2005 the space shuttle program was once again alive with the successful liftoff of the orbiter Discovery. Following the Columbia tragedy, a stand down of all shuttle flights occurred from Feb 2003 until the liftoff of STS-114 and its 7-member crew.

The video begins with hatch closure 45 minutes prior to liftoff. You will follow flight controllers as they enter the T-20 minute hold and then the T-9 minute hold. Listen to the final “go” from flight controllers as the final countdown picks up towards liftoff.

Feel the excitement as NASA returns to space and begins the final phase in the assembly of the International Space Station.
