Sparkling Art Deco Headdress 20s Rhinestone Flapper Hat

This is a fabulous rhinestone and black glass high Art Deco evening headpiece. The rhinestones are all prong set; the black glass is faceted in square shapes. Silver seed bead fringe begins at the sides and continues around the geometric curves and angles to the back. There is a row of fringe around the crown and four 6 sided black glass cabochons at the front crown.

This piece was owned by the same lady as the Deco headpiece that just sold on Ebay. I believe this a little later and probably a little more classic Art Deco in style but that is just my opinion. Trixie was an elderly lady when I met her in the early 1990s and shared amazing stories of her life in society in Hollywood in the 20s and 30s. Many of her pieces were custom made for her by the same ladies and gentlemen who provided clothing for the silent film stars.

The rhinestone strips are sewn onto black satin ribbon. The foundation material is a stiffer mesh material covered in thin loosely woven strips of cream colored silk. There is a layer of black net over this, probably to keep the wearer's hair from snagging.

Condition is excellent, the materials are sturdy. The only issues I find are, the silver lining of the beads has tarnished, as usual. Some of the rhinestones are brighter than others but the piece is very sparkly, even in dim light. I've looked very carefully and can find no missing beads or stones. The headpiece measures 23" in circumference. This piece has some weight to it; it weighs 1/2 pound.
