Intrinsically safe handheld VHF radios are the standard for two-way communication for workers or individuals in hazardous conditions. For commercial users working in a variety of settings such as oil rig workers, emergency medical services, and any other environment where volatile gases may produce an explosion if gases could be ignited by conventional VHF radios. The U.S. Department of the Interior released National Safety Alert No. 5 (dated March 6, 2002) regarding a flash fire on an offshore oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico caused by a cell phone.

VHF Marine and Dealer Programmable LMR channels: The HX370SAS is factory programmed with all USA, Canadian and International and NOAA Weather channels. It also has the capability to be programmed 40 Land Mobile Radio (LMR) channels with CTCSS or DCS signaling by a Standard Horizon dealer. These channels do require the appropriate FCC license.
