Steinbach Mouse King Nutcracker #636 Ltd. Edition

You are bidding on one of my listed Steinbach Nutcrackers.  This is the LIMITED EDITION Mouse King, #636.  He is approximately 12.5" tall.  He has been on display in my home in a bookcase but is still in very good condition, with some minor scuffing on the bottom of the cheese as shown in the second photo.  He retails for $620 (no, really), but I do not have a box.   

Nutcrackers were created in Germany as a tool for opening or removing the shells of nuts. Over the years, these beautifully crafted, carved Nutcrackers emerged as highly collectible figurines. Carved characters took on the image of birds, animals and human forms. Levers or screws on the back could be worked to push the lower jaw up against the upper jaw to crush the nut in the mouth of the Nutcracker doll.

Nutcrackers were given as a keepsake to protect ones home and as a symbol of good luck. They represented power and strength and served as guard to keep away evil spirits. With their fierce demeanor, they bare their teeth to protect the home and are a traditional figure of goodwill.

The Steinbach family started making nutcrackers and other items in the 1800s in the Alpine regions of Germany. The tradition of creating hand-carved Steinbach German Nutcrackers is carried on by the Steinbach family, which remains responsible for the product concept development, design, manufacture, and quality control at the Hohenhameln factory in the northern region of Germany.  Nutcrackers are carved using a unique mixture of premium machinery and an artisan's touch. Each step of the process, from cutting to hand-turning to power-drill polishing, is guided by one of Steinbach's artisans. Every detail is hand-carved and painted freehand to ensure that each nutcracker is both unique and high-quality.
