| Very rare sterling silver and enamel Victorian novelty propelling pencil, made circa 1880. This is a wonderful and rare silver propelling pencil by the famous maker, Sampson Mordan, as an Egyptian mummy. The body is superbly enameled with white, dark blue and turquoise blue to both sides. The pencil is in perfect working order and when you pull the suspension ring at the head, the propelling pencil extends outwards. Fully extended, the pencil is 3-1/4 inches / 84 mm long and closed it measures 1-3/4 inches / 47 mm. The pencil is not marked as is quite normal for these pieces. It was made by Sampson Mordan circa 1880 and I understand that this model is illustrated in books on the pens and pencils of Sampson Mordan. The pencil is in excellent condition as can be seen from the pictures. I will be exhibiting at The Little Chelsea Antiques Fair at The Chelsea Old Town Hall, King's Road, London, on Monday 5th October (3 pm - 8 pm) and on Tuesday 6th October (10 am - 6 pm) and also on Sunday 25th October at The Marylebone Antiques Fair at The Hellenic Centre, Paddington Street, London (10:30 am - 4:30 pm).
