This is a beautifully designed and masterfully hand crafted turn of the century American sterling silver coffee pot. Date marked for 1915 production. From the highly regarded Baltimore firm of Stieff Co. Founded in 1892 as the Baltimore Sterling Silver Co., by Charles C. Stieff. Renamed Stieff Co in 1904. The firm was known for its ever popular Baltimore Rose pattern. Also renowned for superb period re-creations for the Williamsburg and Old Sturbridge Museums. In 1979 acquired Kirk and renamed Kirk-Stieff. This museum worthy early century Stieff sterling silver coffee pot in classic baluster form. Beautifully repoussed scrolling leaf and floral decoration throughout. Unusually large, boldly rendered flowers. Carved in exceptionally high relief from surface. In various stages of majestic bloom. Some of the images below illustrate individual flower and leaf rising nearly an inch from the surface below. Set against rich satin background. Accentuates the floral designs perfectly. Thick, well rendered domed cover. Topped with the original raised flower and ruffled leaf finials. Lush bouquet of diverse florals below. Rising from ruffled gadroon cover's edge. The finial secured with the original Stieff cross cut fastner. Boldly fashioned "grape and leaf wrap" spout. The spout itself in the form of a gnarled, rough hewn rising vine. Brilliant, life like finish detail. Approaching that of the late Meiji silversmith's nature inspired designs. This grape and vine motif is rarely found on period Stieff silver. Well cast acanthus cap, streaming floral decorated wide arch C-scroll handle. Some collectors refer to these ae "elephant ear" handles. Period engraved "1893 OBS 1918" to the underside only. There is no monogram to the visible body of the set. This fine and rare 1915 Stieff sterling silver scrolling foliate on satin coffee pot is 9 1/2 inches tall and 9 1/4 inches handle to spout. Exceptionally thick, heavy guage sterling construction throughout. The coffee pot weighs 32 ounces. Hallmarked as shown. Including Stieff's covered 1915 date symbol (See Rainwater). In excellent condition. Appears little, if ever used. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. The interior completely free of discoloration. The streaming florals on satin background decoration and raised leaf and floral finials retain their original crisp, vibrant hand chased detail. Stands perfectly firm on table or tray. Cover remains open just a hair in front, as you can see from images barely noted. For the discerning collector of the finest turn of the century American hand crafted sterling. A museum worthy 1915-1916 date marked Stieff sterling silver scrolling florals on satin background coffee pot. In excellent condition. We recently sold a small Stieff bowl and underplate for over $1000., with similar floral decoration and dating. And a matching tea set for over $3000. Please feel free to inquire directly about this, or any item we've listed. Whether the item is alone or part of a set. We very much welcome your interest. We are collectors first. As such, we are quite easy to work with. We happily combine items when shipping, saving you costs. We ship twice weekly, usually US Postal Priority. Fully insured for domestic packages, and air parcel overseas. We charge a bit more than actual cost for custom size boxes, shipping materials and to pay for professional packing. We make great effort to accurately describe each item listed. Returns are accepted, if either condition, country of origin or dating is significantly incorrect. In such cases we refund your shipping costs as well. Like you, we are only human, and make mistakes. Hopefully, not too many. Remember, the items you see are antiques. Hence, have an expected amount of wear from normal use. As such, returning an item because we failed to mention the tiniest bit of wear, or barely discernible flaw is not acceptable. Nor do we accept returns based on buyer's remorse. Nor change of taste, or because a buyer did not realize how "small" four inches might be once in hand. Please note, Massachusetts residents are subject to sales tax. We have over 5050 feedbacks. And, are quite proud of our 99.% plus rating. For nearly ten years, our Seller rating was 99.9%. This past year it decreased to 99.3%. This in no way reflects a change in our efforts to offer the finest service to our clients. More than one-third of whom are international buyers. Instead, it is the direct result of an increasing number of Ebay "scam" artists. Buyers whom receive an item, then claim non-existent damages. Many of these refuse to return the item for full refund. Instead, they demand exorbitant partial refunds threatening a Pay Pal complaint and/or negative feedack when we refuse. Other buyers lose a Pay Pal dispute then leave us "revenge" feedback. In order to maintain a 100% rating, many sellers "cave in" to this sort of extortion. We will not. We have not and will not negotiate with Ebay "terrorists". As a result, we receive the occasional, less than one in a hundred, negative feedback. Our hundreds of Ebay clients, many with us for years, have expressed their vigorous support of us and our business model. As well as our approach to the Ebay feedback system.
We received favorable notice in the March 12th, 2006 New York Times. Page 8, Business Section, in a well written article on silver collecting. Copy furnished upon request. From our personal collection, an elegant mid 19th century coin silver basket, from John and Edward Moore, of Tiffany fame. Illustrated in the cover article of May/June 2008 Silver Magazine, page 27. Enjoy....and good fortune in your bidding.
